When your breasts have a drooping shape and you want them to be firm and perky, you choose breast lift. Women often go for this surgery to feel more womanly as it enhances their body shape, and they feel more comfortable wearing different types of bras and going out swimming in a bikini. This treatment is also known as mastopexy. The surgeon majorly works on the tissue around the breasts to make them look firm and the excessive skin that’s causing the drooping effect.
When Do Women Usually Need Breast Lift?
There are several reasons why a woman can have drooping breasts. Many of the women who go for surgery have their breasts in this shape since they developed them. Here are some other reasons women go for breast lift.
- Their shape of breasts has changed after pregnancy and breastfeeding.
- They lost weight and now their breasts don’t complement their body shape anymore.
- They have aged and the breasts have lost youthfulness.
- They inherited the sagging breasts.
If you feel that your breasts are hanging on your belly, are too down below your chest area or your nipples are not pointing straight ahead, you are a candidate for breast lift.
Different Surgeries for Breast Lift
There are four common types of surgeries that can be performed for breast lifting. You have to be sure that you have chosen a certified surgeon for the job before you go for the treatment. Here are the four types of breast lifting surgeries.
-
Crescent Lift
In this type of surgery the cut is made on the top crescent of the areola. This type of surgery is mostly performed in combination with breast enhancement/augmentation. However, this is a very rarely used method of performing breast lift. It is most suitable for cases where only a minimal sagging of the breasts is to be corrected.
-
Vertical Lift
This is one of the most commonly used methods of breast lifting. Why surgeons use this method is because they can remove the desired amount of skin to reshape the breast in the desired form. Furthermore, the scar is also easily hidden with this type of surgery. In this surgery the surgeon will cut the lining of the areola and make another cut from areola to the bottom crease of the breast. Due to the shape of the cut it is also known as lollipop lift.
-
Peri-Areolar Lift
They also name it the donut lift due to the shape of the cut. This type of lift is perfect for women who only need mild sagging to be removed. The incision is made around the lining of the areola. You could say it is like vertical lift but without the vertical cut. Many women go for this particular procedure because they are looking to change their areola size as well.
-
Inverted-T Lift
This is the most detailed type of breast lifting surgery for the most extreme cases. You need this type of treatment if your breasts sag too much and there is a lot of excess skin to be removed. The technique will require 3 incisions to be made in an anchor shape. First incision is at the bottom of the areola, the second cut is made vertically to the inframammary fold and the third cut completes the anchor shape along the inframammary fold.
As you go for any of these surgeries, it is never enough to remind you to choose your plastic surgeon with proper research.
